How To Train Your Dragon

H ow To Train Your Dragon seems to be yet another masterpiece from Dreamworks, the studio that brought the likes of Shrek, Kung Fu Panda and Madagascar to life. This winning array of voices are as varied as the story lines lovable magical qualities, fit for child and adult alike. The film presents the unlikely relationship between a Viking teenager named Hiccup voiced by Jay Baruchel (of Knocked Up fame) and a nigh un-catchable dragon oddly named Toothless. Hiccup is seen as a failure in his father’s eyes (the chief of the village voiced by Gerard Butler), and is told to stay inside as the other vikings slay dragons who are taking their livestock. Hiccup and nigh un-catchable Toothless H owever and somewhat inevitably Hiccup escapes and manages to capture a Night Fury dragon, without any real struggle. Claustrophobics beware!

I magine being stuck in a coffin underground in one of the most dangerous places in the world. Imagine only having a mobile phone and a zippo lighter as your only source of light and communication with the outside world. Mexican director Rodrigo Cortes chose this story and only leading man Ryan Reynolds to produce the premise of an entire film based solely in the setting of a very self contained set piece. For Paul Conroy his worst nightmare has come true, as an American lorry driver who is ambushed by terrorists and knocked unconscious, waking up in a coffin underground in Iraq. What Cortes manages to do with the film is suck the audiences attention within the first couple of minutes with a pitch black screen, deep heavy set breathing, and a struggle to escape. Hello Blog world, this is my first official blog, away from the blog world of the University of College Falmouth. What should I say....hmmm..ok well I should introduce myself, my name is Megan Kelly, I am a third year BA Honours Journalism student from (look above) university. I do have a review I could post up here, my first official review for Blogger, it is about the new film The Town, a very enjoyable grown up crime thriller: It seems a Boston set drama is Ben Affleck’s forte, after co-writing the screenplay for Oscar-winning Good Will Hunting with long time childhood friend Matt Damon in 1997, Affleck has left behind his acting skills momentarily and is focusing on being behind the camera.
