My first blog...

Hello Blog world, this is my first official blog, away from the blog world of the University of College Falmouth.

What should I say....hmmm..ok well I should introduce myself, my name is Megan Kelly, I am a third year BA Honours Journalism student from (look above) university.

I do have a review I could post up here, my first official review for Blogger, it is about the new film The Town, a very enjoyable grown up crime thriller:

It seems a Boston set drama is Ben Affleck’s forte, after co-writing the screenplay for Oscar-winning Good Will Hunting with long time childhood friend Matt Damon in 1997, Affleck has left behind his acting skills momentarily and is focusing on being behind the camera.

After the remarkable outstanding directorial debut with the critically acclaimed Gone Baby Gone, Affleck took on another Boston set crime drama, however, this time the ante has been upped.

The Town adapted from Chuck Hogan’s novel Prince of Thieves, features Boston’s neighbouring Charlestown known to have the highest grossing robberies and bank heists in the world.

Doug MacRay (Ben Affleck) along with three of his best friends are bank robbers. When they take female bank manager Claire (Rebecca Hall) hostage, MacRay has to keep a watchful eye on whether she fesses up to the FBI who they are, however, he ends up getting romantically involved with her. Which leads them deeper and deeper into FBI territory; as FBI agent Frawley (Jon Hamm) learns more of the relationship, the race to catch them in the act begins.

Affleck has a definite talent for casting, alongside his directorial duties; the film features a strong group of brilliant rising stars, including the likes of Mad Men’s Jon Hamm, the Hurt Locker’s Jeremy Renner and Woody Allen’s muse in Vicky Christina Barcelona Rebecca Hall.

The Town embodies the elements of a grown up crime thriller, an intelligent script, witty dialogue, vigorous car chases, bank heists and believable chemistry.

However, the standout performance of the whole ensemble comes from Jon Hamm playing FBI agent Frawley with such charisma you hope he gets the results he wants, undoubtedly a new Hollywood leading man.

It seems Affleck has managed to produce his best work, out of sight, from behind the camera.
