Breakin' Convention at Hall for Cornwall

In the whirlwind of surrealist choreography, Breakin’ Convention created such breathtaking performances to a thrilled audience in Truro's Hall for Cornwall.
The atmosphere and buzz of excitement after viewing such a spectacle in the theatre brings a feel of community and a sense of respect to the work and effort that goes into such a force of a production.
Pre-show, the wall of graffiti and open floor set with a DJ and beat boxing started the night, for all bidding local talents to show their moves.

When the interval came, the music and free style dancing spread out into the foyer around the back and entrance, continuing the electric mood and atmosphere throughout.
The dance troupes consisted of six separate performances, featuring local acts, Encore, Street Factory, Flava and international artists: Phase T and Sebastien and Raphael, combining for an energetic surge of commanding the stage, with acrobatic and athletic sensations.
Having toured the UK for seven years, Breakin’ Convention served a mixed bag of hip-hop and contemporary dance, commandeered by Jonzi D, Artistic Director and MC, who never failed to keep the audience involved throughout the night.

The show is a spectacle for all the family, even for parents, with inventive performances as entertaining and dramatic, as well as standout routines from the two main international pieces as well as the local groups; respectively in equally overall sensational productions.

Local dance group Flava who appeared on series two of 2008’s Britain’s Got Talent, paid tribute to Michael Jackson’s dancing which resulted in goose bumps and whoops of excitement from the audience; and Street Factory’s message of Hip Hop uniting was imaginative and intelligently put across.
Ending the night with the contemporary dance duo of France and Germany’s Sebastien and Raphael, the whole second half seemed inadvertently subdued compared to the first half’s hyperactive performances.

But, the mind blowing camera techniques and use of the projector screen behind brought the performance to life, keeping the intrigue for the rest of the show, which ended with a standing ovation.
