The end of an era...goodbye Potter

Review

For the final instalment, David Yates and co. did not disappoint. Beginning where we left off in Part 1, Voldemort discovered the Elder wand, by breaking into Dumbledore's grave and stealing it. But what marks this film in all the series is the prominence of the character of Severus Snape. His story and rightfully so; as readers of the book will know, is heart wrenching and a complete game changer of a discovery.

As Harry discovered in part 7, his quest to find all the Horcruxes is of the up most importance if he's to have any chance of defeating Voldemort once and for all.

The film wastes no time in continuing this quest; which leads him to a heist in Gringotts bank, escaping on the back of a dragon and finally retreating back to Hogwarts for the final battle.

With the help of temperamental goblin Griphook, to get them in and out safely in return for the sword of Gryffindor; the films first huge set piece is as thrilling as it was described to us in the last half of the book. Hermione uses Polyjuice potion to become Bellatrix Lestrange, Ron disguises himself as a death eater, whilst Harry and Griphook hide under the invisibility cloak out of danger.

The set pieces are perhaps the best in all of the series in terms of the scale and spectacle of creating the battle of all battles in the Wizarding world. Giants, Dementors, and foul beasts are called in to fight on both sides and there lies the best of CGI as the camera zooms and flies past the towers of Hogwarts following the battles fought in every part of the castle.

With no stone left unturned, whether you watched it in 3D or not (it was originally filmed in 2D but the 3D was added on later) the film blows its previous counterparts out of the water.

It is by far the best and most complete journey, and as much prominence is given to the key scenes of the book as broadening the final fight sequence, that feels even more like a thrilling chase to the bitter end and puts to an end to the biggest villain hero final confrontation that is possible. It is satisfying.

Snape’s story is perhaps the most emotional and gut wrenching scenes of the whole books put together, if you have a dry eye when you left the cinema, then you have not truly felt the pain, anguish and love of one of Harry Potter’s most beloved villains/heroes

The only question left remaining is in the world of Pottermore, for the world created by J.K. Rowling a website dedicated to the parts of the story that she has kept locked away, only to relish fans with the excitement and enjoyment of the Potter universe.

On December 2nd Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 came out on DVD for everyone to revel in the emotional finale. As box sets a-plenty will  you can join the journey from Year One to the final battle for Hogwarts and with the Wizarding world of Harry Potter in Orlando Resort, and the Harry Potter Studio London Tour
