HMV...RIP?

The sad news for film fans and music fans alike has come that HMV are under pressure to stay open, failing to compete with online downloads, online film websites etc. to be downtrodden along with plenty of other big businesses going bye bye.

Jessops, Comet and Clinton Cards all big retailers for cameras, computers and greetings cards have all diminished into nothingness.

The state of the high street retailers has definitely shifted from 20 years ago when the only place you could buy your equipment, videos and CDs was from a big chain store like HMV.

Opened in 192, HMV has been a stalwart retailer, well known for its trademark gramophone and dog. Pink font and brilliant deals.

As a huge fan of films, I'm very sad to see it go bust, but admittedly I am buying my music from Amazon via downloads or ordering it from them, simply because it is cheaper, but when it comes to films, I'm always torn between Amazon or HMV as the delivery for new releases is free from HMV which I hugely respect.

Just recently I was a winner for a goody bag of HMV prizes for answering correctly a question about a trailer, Tweeted it and won goodies for the newly released The Dark Knight Rises DVD release.

My love for HMV simply comes from loving to browse the shelves for films, ranging from indie to big blockbusters and deals on box sets like Buffy the Vampire Slayer to films you love at a decent price of £3, always helpful staff and occasionally very decent music heard over the speakers whilst you browse and shop to your hearts content.

Sorely missed by lovers of films, music or games. HMV was a haven and I will greatly miss one of my favourite shops.
